What is actually free?
Free without AI: Homework Magic offers year-group and subject practice, checking for supported question types, and ways to review mistakes. Optional paid AI: Magic Coach and AI-powered explanations require the appropriate subscription (normally Plus for schoolwork; Max also provides 11+ Coach). The free practice tools are not the same as unlimited free AI chat. See plans and feature access.
How a child can use Homework Magic for homework
1. Find the right topic
Choose the school year and Maths or English topic. Start small: for younger pupils, five minutes of focused work can be enough to begin.
2. Have a go first
Answer a question before asking for a hint. Supported questions can be checked automatically without generating a new AI answer.
3. Understand and retry
Review an incorrect answer. Where AI explanations are enabled, ask Magic Coach why a method works, then try another example.
Example: understanding a fraction mistake
Suppose a Year 4 child says 1/4 + 1/4 = 2/8. A useful explanation starts with the idea of equal-sized parts: when the denominators are the same, add the numerators and keep the denominator. So 1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 = 1/2. The next step is a new question the child solves, not simply copying the answer.
This is an illustrative example, not a transcript of a pupil conversation. AI can be wrong, so families should check important answers with school materials or a teacher.
