The confirmed change
On 16 October 2026, Kent County Council announced that Quest Assessments (Atom Learning Ltd) will replace GL Assessment for the Kent Test taken from 2027, for admission in September 2028.
The council says the test purpose, overall structure and timing will stay the same. Its admissions process also remains unchanged. Specific test dates and new familiarisation details will be confirmed through official channels.
What should Year 5 pupils practise?
Keep building reading comprehension, vocabulary, numeracy and reasoning skills. The provider may use a different question presentation, so avoid assuming that every old GL question matches the new paper.
Use original practice questions to understand methods and review mistakes, then use the council’s official familiarisation material when it becomes available.
Avoid unreliable claims
No provider change can guarantee a particular pass mark, question type or school offer. Always check eligibility and admissions criteria for each grammar school.
