Which Trafford schools are affected?
The Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium comprises Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Sale Grammar School, Stretford Grammar School and Urmston Grammar School. Check each school’s own admissions page before applying.
The consortium has announced a change from GL Assessment to Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE) for September 2028 entry. This does not mean every Trafford-area grammar school uses the same exam.
How should preparation change?
The new assessment is described as drawing on Key Stage 2 English and mathematics, rather than simply reproducing the previous verbal and non-verbal reasoning format. Check the latest consortium specifications for exact content.
Keep a steady reading and maths routine, practise explaining answers, and review mistakes. Be wary of commercial materials claiming to be official FSCE past papers.
Check dates and arrangements
For 2028 entry, the relevant test is expected in 2027. Follow each consortium school’s official website for its published test date, registration window and any access arrangements.
Do not rely on the previous GL mock format as a model for the new exam, and do not assume dates from older cohorts are correct.
