Automatic class onboarding with a class code

Automatic class onboarding lets a teacher create a class by hand. Share the class-code link, and a pupil joins once. You can also add someone with their buddy code, give them a clearer class name, or remove them from the class.

How a pupil joins

  1. Create the class. Choose the school, class name, and year group. This works even when you are not importing Bromcom, Arbor, or SIMS.
  2. Share the class code. The link uses a short code such as @ABCD-XY7. A pupil or parent enters it once.
  3. Add with a buddy code. If you already have the child’s buddy code, add them from the class list.
  4. Rename the class display name. Two pupils can share a nickname at home. On the class card, give one a different display name so the list is clear.
  5. Remove a pupil from the class. Deleting them takes them off this class. It does not delete the family account.

Class code

The shareable join link. Pupils use it to enter the class.

Buddy code

The child’s own code. Teachers use it to place the right pupil in the class.

Display name

Shown on this class only. The family nickname is left alone.

Questions about joining a class

Can pupils join without a school system import?

Yes. Class onboarding works on its own. A teacher creates the class and shares the class-code link. A school import is optional.

What is a buddy code?

A buddy code identifies one child. A teacher can add that child to the class with the code instead of waiting for the pupil to type the class code.

Does renaming a pupil change their family name?

No. The new name is the class display name, so two pupils are not stuck with the same label. The nickname on the family account stays as it was.
