Computing for kids: learn to code with blocks

Build simple instructions by joining colourful coding blocks. Run your program and watch an animated capybara move, turn and draw in ten coding adventures.

Start with drag-and-drop blocks

Use movement, turns, repeat loops, pen and colour blocks. Children can experiment with sequencing and checking whether the computer followed their instructions.

Ten progressive coding adventures

Choose a level, follow the challenge, use a hint when needed and earn a star when your blocks work. Try squares, corners, rectangles, staircase paths, colours, pen gaps and loops.

Build computational thinking

Try step-by-step algorithms, repeated actions, debugging and spatial patterns. This is an introductory playground, not a full computing qualification or exam.

Uses the open-source Blockly library

The visual editor is based on Blockly maintained by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The project is licensed under Apache 2.0; Homework Magic is an independent product and is not endorsed by the Foundation.

Private learning workspace

Blockly runs in the browser. The restricted beginner blocks do not run arbitrary JavaScript. The programme can be saved locally on the device for the signed-in pupil; the public page does not show any pupil code.

Frequently asked questions

What age is Computing suitable for?

The drag-and-drop playground is designed as an accessible introduction to programming concepts, particularly for primary-school learners working with a grown-up if needed.

Do children need to type Python or JavaScript?

No. They connect visual blocks for moving, turning, repeating and drawing; Homework Magic runs only its supported beginner instructions.

Is this the official Raspberry Pi Blockly website?

No. Homework Magic uses the open-source Blockly programming library in its own browser-based learning activity. It is not affiliated with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Can I find this in the native mobile app?

The current Computing playground is available in the Homework Magic website. The native iPhone and Android menus do not yet have a dedicated Computing entry.
